What to do with my JupiterResearch blog entry archive?

with 6 comments

My old work blog at JupiterResearch is about to die. I’m wondering whether to publish the archive of old entries on this site? Or elsewhere? Or just let them pass away?

Thoughts?

Note – the new work blog is here on the Forrester website. It has some recent JupiterResearch entries from the last few months (only).

  1. Post them on here!

  2. Removing web pages contributes to link-rot, and in principle, doing it is not good net citizenship.

A blog is a record of events, thoughts and opinions. I’d like to think that those records we are creating with our blogs will remain essentially forever. I hope you do more than keep a backup. Somehow find a way to have it remain on the web in a searchable manner.

I raised a similar question in my blog: How long will wordpress.com posts remain on the web?

  3. I vote for reposting for forrester if you can (work related content should remain on work related sites).

Post here if you can’t and you have sufficient rights in the content to do so.

    • Forrester weren’t interested and they gave me rights to use elsewhere. So, I’ve just got around to posting them here.

  4. Michael – Forrester only want recent Jupiter entries on the new Forrester blog, and have given me an archive for use wherever. Most of my colleagues have added them to personal sites.

Robert – Yes, I prefer to keep things online. I’d have preferred to have left them at their original location, as people will have inward links pointing to various posts there. But that isn’t an option. You may be interested in the other posts I wrote yesterday and today about recession impacts on the continued provision of free services…
